...Bathtubs,
pails, distillation equipment, and other tin and copper objects
were made at the shop.
The
young Montemayor became the shop boss in 1918 when he was
20 years old. In 1924, however, he decided to establish his
own shop, investing his modest savings.
The
installations were located on Zuazua Street, almost at the corner
of M. M. de Llano. Of the four rooms, he set up two for the shop
and two as living quarters, as he was newly wed.
He
acquired eight or ten machines in the United States for 300 dollars
(600 pesos at the exchange rate of that time). With the help of
four or five people, he began to produce all of the steel products
that the city's factories required.
Four
years later, he relocated and hired additional help, coinciding
with a contract during the construction of a military base. This
was an important step, as it aided the company's transition into
a formidable business.
