After
the steel coils have entered the storage bay, they proceed along
one of two routes, depending on the type of steel in question (cold-rolled,
hot-rolled, or galvanized).
Route
"A"
If the final product is made from painted steel, the coil is transported
to the painting lines, where both faces are washed and
treated. A water-based primer, in PROLAMSA's characteristic
colors, is applied to protect against corrosion. The primered coil
may be cut into sheets to produce panels or into strips in the slitter.
From there, the strips are transported to the strip storage area.
Route
"B"
If the end product is made from black steel, the coils are taken
directly to the slitters. The widths of the strips depend on the
products to be manufactured. Afterward, the strips are transported
to the strip storage area.
The
strips are sent from the strip storage area to the assigned mill
or former, depending on whether the product to be manufactured is
tubing, shape, or purlin. At the mill or former's discharge tables,
the products are packaged either manually or automatically. The
packages are then transported by crane to the finished product storage
area, where they are arranged according to product specifications.
Finally, they are loaded onto the customers' trucks for shipping
to their final destination in Mexico, the United States, or Central
America.
